About Me

I absolutely adore animals, children, painting, writing, cooking, karate, singing, anything that has to do with with Prague, Savannah Georgia, Italy, trees with moss, the ocean, antiques, vintage photos of the Civil War, of churches, of abandoned houses, of historic architecture.  Although I’m Christian, I’m still fascinated by the paranormal, as I have had my own experiences.  I’m fiercely protective of anything with fur or a pacifier. I don’t like rude people and I will generally call someone out if they are being overly unpleasant. As a black belt in Okinawan Karate, I’m pretty fearless of most situations, yet I’m a loving and sensitive person who is always there to help a stranger. God and my family are my life and nothing comes before them – except on occasion, pizza, Merlot and chocolate….and not necessarily in that order.

I don’t do drama in my life and don’t allow people in it who do. I am so fortunate to be surrounded by wonderful friends and family that are deeply supportive of all that I do and are the reason I am where I am today in my career. I am a wife and a mother of an amazing son. I wake up grateful for my blessings every day. Oh and if you don’t believe in unicorns…just go away.

{I’m kidding!}

I am adamant about safety with both pet owners and parents, as a former Paramedic in Southern California for six years, I’ve pulled more children and pets from pools, house fires and car accidents than I would like to remember.

I hold a Master’s degree in Animal Science, an Associate Degree of Applied Science and I work with animals ranging from dogs and cats to bears, elephants, tigers, lions and more. I also train law enforcement dogs, as well as protection dogs. I currently have two magazines – Pet Home Magazine is a pet lifestyle magazine devoted to featuring pets for adoption and the other is Style & Bliss, a mainstream lifestyle magazine featuring a bit of everything. I have a best selling international dog behavior book called The Good Behavior Book for Dogs and an audio book called Dog Drool.

I have only one dog now, Sailor, a female black lab, as our precious Chihuahua, Tinkerbelle, died in Feb. 2010 of a brain tumor. I can tell you that the grieving never stops – even when I’m being funny. I cry about her every day…and I suspect that my eyes will never be dry again.

My other companies are The Wedding Dog, Pet Home Design, Animal Miracle Foundation & Network {which is home to my lifesaving pet holidays such as National Dog Day, National Cat Day, National Puppy Day and Specially-abled Pets Day – among others.} I also own a record label called Furocious Music, that features animal loving music artists. I also care greatly about the planet and conservation, as did my friend Steve Irwin for whom I founded National Wildlife Day.

I have been called a Renaissance woman more times than I can remember. I think when you truly live your dream and love what you do every day, you can be successful at many things. I say….follow your dreams!!

“Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things that escape those who dream only at night.”
~Edgar Allen Poe
